Our STORY

Hi! I’m Bernardo, my journey with mountain biking began over two decades ago in the rugged terrains of Cascais-Sintra on mainland Portugal. Back then, it was all about fun: building dirt jumps, carving out new lines, and finding the limits.

Four years ago, I took a leap of faith and moved to the mesmerizing landscapes of the Azores. I didn't just bring my bikes, I brought twenty years of experience, a passion for trail-building, and a vision to share the absolute best of these volcanic islands with both beginners and professional riders.

Four Years of Evolution

What started as a leap of faith has grown into Up Down Trails.
Over the last four years, we’ve welcomed hundreds of riders, from first-timers looking for a scenic tour to seasoned enduro and downhill professionals seeking to test their skill, in the best the Azores has to offer.

We’ve spent these years obsessively scouting every hidden corner of the island, ensuring that when you ride with us, you’re not just seeing the sights, you’re experiencing and feeling the enchantment of the Azores.

Why We Do What We Do

The Azores are a paradise, but it isn't for the faint of heart. With gradients that average 7 to 9% and a climate that tests both rider and machine, we knew from the start that "good enough" gear wouldn't cut it. That’s why we’ve invested in a world-class fleet of EMTBs like the Trek and Giant, as well as protective gear from ION Bikes.

We take pride in our maintenance, using professional-grade tools to keep our bikes running perfectly despite the humid island air and volcanic dust.

More Than Just a Tour

For us, mountain biking is a lifestyle. It’s about a sense of community of like-minded people, shared laughs after a long ride and the deep connection we share to the feeling of being on two wheels.

Whether we’re coaching you through your first technical descent or guiding you on a 30+km sightseeing adventure through Tronqueira, our goal is the same: to make sure your day on the bike is the best day of your trip.

The trails are calling,
and the scenery is waiting!
